Start with the end in mind. That has always been one of the first places I coach people when they want to host their own live event.
The biggest money leak with events is not having the right offer for the right event. More importantly, the right offer for where YOU are at. This means where you are in your business, energy, focus and desire.
Know what your offer is going to be so you can create your content around it and be solid in your offer when you do make the invitation.
And also know that things change. The energy in the room changes, you change. I had this experience at Event Revolution last week.
I have known what the offer was going to be for months. It felt good. It felt solid. I was excited about it. But I forgot to ask an important question.
“What could be better than this? What could be lighter than this?”
So I made the offer and while I was excited about it, I felt that something was missing. So on day 3 of my event, I made a different offer. And that felt even better.
Old-school business would have likely told me to be more assertive in the original offer – more extreme. I would have been advised to essentially be a bulldog in my sales approach. And that just doesn’t work for me.
So I changed my offer. It aligned better and I feel really happy with the results.
Bottom line – give yourself permission to change. And know the difference between changing your mind because you’re following the energy vs changing your mind to sabotage your progress. There is a BIG difference.
Where in your business are you convincing yourself that your original plan has to work. So you make it work. You work hard at making it work. How fun is that?
This week I coached two people and the problem with their business wasn’t their offer, or message or expertise, it was that they weren’t giving themselves to change their minds.
One person was trying to fill a retreat at a price point that was too low – it didn’t align. So she changed the retreat to be a client retreat (only clients can attend) rather than a retreat with non clients who would receive an offer.
After doing some clearing work around it, within a couple of hours she received a new contract for a new client. BAM! See what happens if you just allow yourself to follow the energy? Bigger results can show up beyond your original idea.
Another person who is also filling a retreat realized that she wanted to add a half day to her retreat and that her offer at the retreat needed more clarity. Once we worked through her offer, the message for the marketing came together in a matter of minutes.
Give yourself permission to change your mind. It could be the thing that needs to sync up so you are in a position to receive more and receive more with ease.
